I’ve always been a proponent of SMART goals, but now that you’ve mentioned SMURT goals, I have to agree: they make for more excitement and adventure in life.

The best part about SMURT goals is achieving them. I made what I thought was a SMURT goal and less than halfway through January, it came true! So I guess it wasn’t so SMURT after all, huh?

That gives me the confidence to go after even bigger things and made me realize that maybe I can achieve much more than I ever thought possible.

Ria, I so agree with your statement “passion is what will drive you through all the trials that will test your commitment to that goal”. As I re-invent myself contantly, I fail constantly! But I have a longer term vision of where I want to go and who I want to help and the passion I hold helps me get through the stumbles. I think of mistakes as MIS-takes, meaning I can take several times to get it right. Just like Thomas Edison who tried over 1000 times to invent the lightbulb. Thank goodness he didn’t give up or we’d all be in the dark!

I particularly love RESONANT, Elena. So many people do not ask themselves this question. They set their goals based on external factors, maybe whether or not the “payout” is big enough, if there is a market for a product/service, if they are skilled or experienced in an area… but not whether it FEELS right for them. I love the question, “Can I commit myself emotionally to completing the project?”

So many people in the coaching space talk about the importance of passion. Here’s the crux of it: you have to have passion about your goal, not because passion automatically leads to success but because your passion is what will drive you through all the trials that will test your commitment to that goal. Your questions get to the heart of the matter. Kudos… people, if you haven’t asked yourself the questions, there’s no time like… now!
