The social media world has been abuzz lately with all the new changes in Facebook pages. Actually, these changes are still optional, but many users have upgraded their pages and have been posting tons of articles and videos about what’s new.
I myself am one of the early adopters and I must say — I love the new Facebook pages!
The number one reason is because the changes make it easier than ever for us to use our company or product Facebook page to get more exposure and PR.
Not sure what I mean?
Here are five ways you can use the new features of your Facebook page to get more publicity:
1. Interact as your page
One of the biggest changes is you can now interact around Facebook as your page. This means, you can like other pages as your page and post on their wall as your page.
By interacting in other pages (this feature does not work on personal profiles, by the way), you’ll get more exposure for your page. You no longer have to use your personal profile to like other pages, or to post comments on their walls.
2. Page admin identity revealed
Previously, the identity of page administrators was not revealed. So, unless your page name IS your personal name, people on your page won’t know you’re the one they’re interacting with. That’s why for a while now I have chosen to use my photo instead of my logo on my page. Why? People talk to people, not logos.
Now you can choose to display the page owner on the left of your page. This will be linked to the page owner’s personal Facebook profile, giving a human face behind your company, brand or product.
3. Row of photos on top of your page
Similar to your personal profile, your page can now have a row of photos on top. This can be useful for showcasing your products and enhancing your branding. Get creative with how you use this space!
4. Featured favorite pages
You can also choose to feature up to five pages that you’ve liked as your page. You can maximize this if you have one main company page and separate pages for each division, or if you have a separate page for each of your products.
You can also use this to feature other people’s pages you’ve liked. Spread the word about them, and they just might return the favor. Or you could feature pages of your clients, customers and partners.
5. Notifications of posts and comments on your page
You will now receive an email every time somebody posts on your page wall. This gives you the opportunity to respond to your audience quickly, and improves your interactions with the ones who like your page.
These are so far the PR opportunities I see in the recent changes to Facebook changes.
If you haven’t upgraded your page yet, now’s a good time to explore the benefits of doing so. (But be forewarned: once you upgrade, you can’t turn back.)
If you have upgraded to the new Facebook page, how do you find it? Do you like the changes? How do you plan to make the most of the new PR opportunities you now have?
